Live Weather Cam from the Bio-Optical Oceanography Laboratory. La Parguera, Lajas, Puerto Rico. Oct 24, · Oceanography applies chemistry, geology, meteorology, biology, and other branches of science to the study of the ocean. It is especially important today as climate change, pollution, and other factors are threatening the ocean and its marine life.

But the more we look, the more we learn that everything arises from the sea and everything falls away to the sea, and the deep blue home is home to every one of us, whether we are beings of water, air, rock, ice, or soil.”.
IRIS Clickable Map. Red tides or harmful algal blooms (HABs) of the toxic Karenia brevis occur in the Gulf of Mexico nearly every year, and it is important to know the location, intensity, size, and potential transport pathways of red tides in a timely fashion so that governmental agencies and other groups as well as the general public can be better informed. Extinction coefficients k(λ) for water at 25°C were determined through a broad spectral region by manually smoothing a point by point graph of k(λ) vs wavelength λ that was plotted for data obtained from a review of the scientific literature on the optical constants of water. Absorption bands representing k(λ) were postulated where data were not available in the vacuum uv and soft x-ray.

Welcome to the Ocean Optics Web Book, a continually developing community resource for optical oceanography. The authors' guiding idea for this web site is to create a web-based, dynamically growing, community resource that addresses both the education and reference needs of the broad optical oceanography and ocean color remote sensing communities and that will be freely accessible to all.

Oceanography is the par excellence interdisciplinary science thanks to its peculiar setting within a fluid environment that makes connections extremely efficient.
The oceans connections are well mirrored in the chapters of this book that share a quite explicit multidisciplinary and multi-environmental character. Jan 01, · Purchase Optical Oceanography, Volume 5 - 1st Edition. Print Book & E-Book. ISBNBook Edition: 1.

The most important optical constituents of sea water can be briefly described as follows. Sea Water. Water itself is highly absorbing at wavelengths below nm and above nm, which limits the wavelength range of interest in optical oceanography to the near-ultraviolet to the near infrared.

Buy Optical Oceanography (Vol.5) (Elsevier Oceanography Series) on inspirationdayevents.com FREE SHIPPING on qualified ordersAuthor: N.G. Jerlov.Jun 01, · The Oceanography Society proudly recognizes Dr.
Curtis Mobley as the recipient of the Jerlov Award for his lifetime of achievements and contributions to optical oceanography. Dr. Mobley is an internationally renowned expert in applications of radiative transfer theory to problems in optical oceanography and ocean color remote sensing.
Dr.Optics usually describes the behaviour of visible, ultraviolet, and infrared light. Because light is an electromagnetic wave, other forms of electromagnetic radiation such as X-rays, microwaves, and radio waves exhibit similar properties.
Most optical phenomena can be accounted for using the classical electromagnetic description of light.
